Surfside Area Rotary Club present a check to the Wright Flight organization.

The mission of Wright Flight is to use the inherent motivational power of aviation as a stimulus for students to set and achieve higher goals in their educational and personal development.

From the examples of aviation role models, we teach students that through commitment and hard work they can achieve their own goals, earn the reward of exciting aviation-related experiences, and develop a more positive self concept.

 

Surfside Beach Annual 10K Run
Begun in 2004. This program was originally created by our own Coupe DeVille, (Ragin' Cajun), and Howard Barnard, (#2 Greatest Fighter Pilot). With help from the Town of Surfside and our participating members, this annual event has become our major fund raiser.

Thanksgiving Day Meal Program
This program was started in 1987. The traditional Thanksgiving Day feast, with all the trimmings is delivered to over 100 households. Teams of Rotarians spread out through the county to deliver meals in person.

Beach Sweep
Along with many local organizations, our club participates in this nationwide program. Last year over 200 tons of garbage was collected from our beach areas.

Shadow Day
Youngsters from local middle and high schools spend the day with a Rotarian. Working alongside these kids gives our club members an opportunity to share their knowledge and experience. Capped off by a lunch meeting, this is a fun day for both students and Rotarians alike.

Golf Tournament
The tournament is our largest fund-raiser each year. This past year's tourney was held where we meet each week, PrestWick Country Club. The best ball tournament offers prizes for closest to the hole, holes in one, and best score. Dinner is provided for the entrants at the end of the afternoon.

Spaghetti Supper
Held at Angelo's Steak House, this event gives us all the opportunity to work together raising funds. Our first annual supper, held last February, fed over 400 people, raising over $4,000 for the club.
